Mrs. Doug emailed me the update tonight:
"We got the week started off to a good start. They did another swallow
test today and will be going to a more regular diet. The thing they
are concerned with most is not getting strangled on liquids
.
In PT today they said he did great on Friday and had walked 150 ft.
and climbed 3 steps and went down them We did the same thing today
and also went outside to walk on the deck today. He is still having a
little trouble with the right foot crossing over the left one but it's
not as bad as it was last week.
In OT we worked on transfers. He is getting much better at being able
to move from the wheel chair to the mat and back. They also put a
roller type of brace on his right arm and had him try and move it
forward and then back. He was able to move it a little but it was
mainly coming from his shoulder area but that is great because we have
movement and it has to start somewhere.
In speech she said he was making great progress. We are trying to
get him to talk and say anything because the more he tries to say the
more easily the words will start to come. That might be a challenge
because he doesn't talk a lot anyway. Today when we were walking and
he started to get tired he said Help.
To each of you who were a part of the Benefit Saturday night we want
to say THANK YOU!! To each of you who came I was so proud to see you
and as sorry if I missed seeing you. It has been great to get to
share with Dale everything that went on this weekend and everyone I
saw. When I told him about everyone who was working Saturday and has
been for weeks before getting ready for the event he just smiles and
nods his head. I know he wishes he could have been there. God is so
Good!! As I sit here typing this I think of the fun that was had
Saturday and the love that was shared and knowing that each of you
gave God the Glory for it all.
We had company today Tony, Tammy & Addie Beth Watkins came by right
after lunch and visited awhile. Clay, Rachael & Little Bill Spencer
came by late this afternoon and visited. I got to hold Little Bill,
he is so handsome and sweet. It was great to see them all.
We are so excited about the Sunday School and Church attendance
yesterday. Dale smiled real big when I told him about it this morning
and his eyes lit up and he nodded real big.
We love you and thank God for each of you,
Doug & Dale"
