March 31, 2012

I talked to Mrs. Doug tonight.  She said they had a good week.  They had three doctors appointments this week.  They had blood work done on Tuesday.  On Thursday he went to the doctor who did the skull surgery and he released him.  He said he was way ahead of where he expected him to be.  The nurse said she kept expecting him to be wheeled in via ambulance on a stretcher, and was really surprised to see him come in the front door via wheel chair.  On Friday, they went to his heart doctor and he put him on Coumadin.  One of the medications he's on is to control his irregular heart beat, but he might have to come off of it because Dr. Adams was concerned it could cause another stroke.  But for now, he's still on it.  He's going to trace back when he started that medication and see why and who administered it before he takes him off of it.

With physical therapy, they have been walking him and about 20 minutes of leg exercises.  This next week, the PT named Braxton said he's going to teach him some dance steps to try to work on his balance.  He's pretty good at standing still without having to hold onto something.

They only saw the OT once this week because of the dr appointments.  She worked mainly with his arm and  on transfers to the bathtub.

His speech therapist is his niece.  He has said "fish, seat, four, five," and several words that start with the "m" sound like "me, & ma."  She's always good to explain why they are working on something, which seems to help him.  He's responding really well to her.  Mrs. Doug said she's been making a point to try to leave the room while he's working on speech so he can focus on the therapist.

Yesterday, when they went to Joe's office, Mrs. Doug had called to get directions and she could tell Bro. Dale was getting upset with her.  He knew exactly how to get there and didn't think she needed to call and get the directions.

Wednesday, while Mrs. Doug was out running errands, Jim Blue came and sat with Bro. Dale.  When she got home, she found some flyers from the Jehovah's Witnesses that were rolled up to be thrown away.  Bro. Dale took the pamphlets and showed her who brought them by.

Mrs. Doug asked Bro. Dale if he wanted to come to church in the morning and he nodded "yes!"  So they are planning to be there in the morning to hear the choir!!!  She said she's not going to attempt his tie, but she aims to get his suit on him.

Mrs. Doug is looking for someone who can come sit with Bro. Dale tomorrow afternoon from about 1:30-3 so that she can go see the Bible Drillers do their associational drill.

"1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name;
   make known among the nations what he has done.
2 Sing to him, sing praise to him;
   tell of all his wonderful acts.
3 Glory in his holy name;
   let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
4 Look to the LORD and his strength;
   seek his face always.  5 Remember the wonders he has done,
"  Psalm 105:1-5
